Dr Nazia M Habib Co-Founder and Managing Director at CSIP

Founder and Research Director at the Resilience and Sustainable Development Programme (RSDP) at the University of Cambridge, Dr Nazia is a policy systems specialist with a background in economics and sustainability science.

Aside from teaching and researching on decision science and policy making at Cambridge, Dr Habib is currently a Fellow with the World Economic Forum (WEF), the Royal Society of Arts (RSA), and a Special Advisor to the UN Food Systems Summit and a member of several Cambridge University based research centres CISL, and CSAP to name a few.

She is an alumni of Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Columbia University. Dr Habib has advised over twenty governments on sustainable development and climate change related policy issues. She has developed multiple methodologies that have been adopted by international agencies to improve their decision-making process.

Richard Jones Co-Founder and Managing Director at CSIP

Senior figure in Banking, Investment and Insurance with over thirty years experience. Over the past thirteen years, Richard has led EU and UK-regulated Investment, Life Insurance, Banking and FinTech businesses as CEO.

He has worked extensively with regulators around the world to improve financial inclusion and to help support investment and trade flows. At HSBC, as Global Deputy Head of Group Retirement Businesses, he led the Group’s work with Oxford University (Institute of Ageing) on the Future of Retirement, and as Managing Director of HSBC Insurance, he led the Group’s Customer Experience initiatives focused on using technology to upgrade all touch points.

He most recently co-founded CSIP with Dr Habib to help promote the use of systems-based thinking to help manage complexity and improve sustainable decision-making.

Miles O’Connor Advisory Board Member

As an independent management consultant within the asset management industry, Miles advises clients on both business and sales strategy as well as talent development. He has enjoyed a long and successful career at the forefront of the Institutional Investment Management industry both in the UK and abroad, with over 35 years of experience in a range of global investment management companies. His primary focus has been on international sales and client service functions.

Most recently, Miles was Head of the EMEA institutional business at State Street Global Advisors (SSGA), where he was a member of the Global Management Committee and regional champion for their growing ESG capabilities. Before joining SSGA, Miles held similar roles at Schroder Investment Management Ltd, Barclays Global Investors (now Blackrock) and WorldInvest Management Ltd.

These senior management roles gave Miles experience of a variety of UK regulatory authorities, in both at personal and organisational capacity, and he has served on a variety of industry committees. He is a keen advocate of developing integrated ESG principles within asset management firms.

Laurie Edmans CBE Advisory Board Member

Laurie has spent a lifetime in pensions, investment and retirement related areas. He is a non-executive director of NOW Pensions Limited and chairs B Different, a financial services research agency. He is a Commissioner of the Financial Inclusion Commission, and a member of advisory boards of Cardano, the pensions risk and investment management specialist and Fairer Finance.

Laurie is Founder Director of NEST, of the Pensions Regulator, the Money Advice Service, he was also the founding chair of Zurich UK’s Independent Governance Committee, chaired Marine and General Mutual Assurance and the ABI’s pensions and savings committee. During his executive career, he was Corporate Development Director of AEGON UK and Deputy Chief Executive of National Provident Institution, where he established and chaired one of the earliest Socially Responsible Investment teams in the UK. He was appointed CBE for services to pensions reform in 2006.  He is a fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and of the Pensions Management Institute.

He is also co-chair of ‘GAIN’, the insurance and related financial services initiative that aims to improve employment prospects for neurodiverse people in the industry. He has also been a Trustee of the Quest School for autistic children for 15 years and a member of the ‘Employ Autism’ Development Board established by Ambitious About Autism.

Richard Macklin Advisory Board Member

Richard serves on the Advisory Board of Imperial College’s MBA programme and as an associate of Moller Institute at the University of Cambridge.

He is also Advisory Chair and faculty member of Meyler Campbell, coaching leaders and teams in multi-nationals and the professional services industry, together with a portfolio of pro bono clients ranging from the NHS to the 30% Club (promoting women in FTSE 100 boardrooms).

He formerly served as Global Vice Chair of the world’s largest law firm, throughout its journey from 164th largest to the No.1 slot worldwide, by headcount and locations. Simultaneously appointed as Global Client Partner, he was responsible for relations with a number the firm’s largest global clients and for designing its market-facing strategy.

Described in the legal directories as “a corporate heavyweight”, he also founded and ran a number of international offices and was former co-head of his firm’s M&A division. His track record of cross-border M&A work spans over 30 years, serving in London, New York, Brussels and Paris. 

Arun Kelshiker CFA, CAIA Advisory Board Member

Arun Kelshiker brings close to twenty years of multi-asset career experience, having managed institutional assets and provided investment advisory with leading international asset managers and banks including Allianz Global Investors and Standard Chartered.  

He was formerly the Head of Asset Allocation and Portfolio Strategy at Standard Chartered Bank. Arun was part of Standard Chartered’s Global Investment Committee and responsible for multi-asset strategies within Standard Chartered global publications for several years. Arun’s institutional background has been with Allianz Global Investors (AGI) and Allianz Group, in which he was involved at the start of AGI. As a senior portfolio manager, and Country CIO, he successfully managed institutional investment mandates and teams for the Allianz Group. 

Arun has an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, US, and a Masters in International Economics and Management from SDA Bocconi University in Milan, Italy. He is a CFA Charterholder and a CAIA Charterholder. His undergraduate degree is from UMIST, UK. His volunteering activities have included CFA (non-profit) for over fifteen years in various roles e.g. board member etc. and currently contributes to CFA UK’s Inclusion & Diversity Committee, Pension Expert Panel, ESG Group and Investment Committee. He is also a regular contributor / speaker at investment conferences and for the media as well as a university lecturer on finance and ESG.

Marilyn Swinney Advisory Board Member

Marilyn Swinney, Managing Director, Head of Institutional Sales UK & Ireland at Principal, has over two decades of international distribution experience. Throughout her career which includes roles at State Street Global Advisors; Deutsche Bank Asset Management; Aviva Investors and Henderson Global Investors, she has a proven track record of developing strategic, profitable, collaborative partnerships across a wide range of institutions, drawing on a strong skillset in risk management, investment solutions, product development and client servicing.

Her interest in ESG, data analytics and technology is borne out of a science and engineering background, having graduated in BSc Textile Technology & Management from UMIST. She is able to bring a uniquely different perspective in her active involvement in helping investors achieve better outcomes including for DB and DC pensions.  

She is a CFA Charter holder and a passionate champion for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, holding several advisory board positions for several groups including GAIN (Group for Autism Insurance and Neurodiversity), the Green Team Global Employee Resource Group for Principal Financial Group and is a Business Ambassador for Ambitious About Autism. 

Consultants

Shaina Ormston Sustainability Consultant

Shaina joined CSIP in November 2022 as a Sustainability Consultant, supporting the delivery of a variety of topics. She worked for several years in the technology industry as a client facing Account Executive, before gaining sustainability experience at a climate technology provider, Lune Climate. In her roles, Shaina has supported teams with a range of project deliverables for many clients across different sectors.

 Shaina holds a Bsc in Animal Science from the University of the West of England, specialising in Epidemiology and Biodiversity. Shaina persued her interest in sustainability, by volunteering in conservation work at Mankwe Wildlife Reserve South Africa for White Rhinoceros’s, whilst completing her degree.

 Shaina embarked on her career in sustainability by initially taking on a side project, assisting in creating a client facing article to show the environmental benefits for companies moving on-premise software and manual processes to automated and cloud systems.

 Shaina strengthened her knowledge and passion for environmental sustainability through work at Lune Climate where she aided clients in utilising Carbon Removal and Offsetting to meet strategic objectives such as becoming Net Zero as well as educating employees and consumers in climate related issues and opportunities.

 More recently, Shaina has found her passion expanding into the sustainable finance and investment landscape following attendance at TISA events and the Responsible Asset Owners Global Symposia. She aims to further her knowledge in the space through completing CFA Institute Certificate in ESG investing.

 Shaina believes that businesses have a responsibility and a huge opportunity to radically improve the ever-changing ESG landscape to ensure the our future generations and the planet are not at risk.
